Role Overview:
Join Our Team as a Physical Performance Coach and play a pivotal, behind-the-scenes and on-pitch role in driving a world-class, professional environment for our Women’s First Team. This role is central to enhancing athletic performance and ensuring players are fully prepared to perform at their best across training and matchday.
You will work at the core of our multidisciplinary team, contributing to all aspects of Sports Science and Physical Performance while also supporting operational elements that uphold elite standards. Your attention to detail, commitment to excellence, and expertise in athletic development will help shape our high-performance culture as we strive to progress into the Women’s Super League.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Lead the Physical Performance, setting elite standards for athletic development and ensuring all processes, systems, and interventions reflect a high-performance environment.
- Drive an innovative, forward-thinking approach to physical preparation, developing robust, resilient athletes capable of meeting the demands of the modern women’s game.
- Work in daily partnership with the technical team to integrate physical performance strategies seamlessly into the club’s playing philosophy, ensuring training design aligns with tactical, technical, and positional requirements.
- Collaborate closely with the medical team to oversee all return-to-performance pathways, delivering female-specific prehab and rehab strategies that minimise injury risk and maximise player availability.
- Provide assessment-led, evidence-based interventions that enhance strength, power, speed, endurance, and mobility, contributing to holistic player development and long-term athletic progression.
- Lead the monitoring, management, and interpretation of player load, using advanced data systems to support weekly training structure, long-term periodisation, and informed decision-making across the Multi Disaplinary Team.
- Oversee and individualise programmes for players on loan, maintaining regular communication with loan clubs to ensure programme continuity and athlete welfare.
- Support and liaise with performance and medical staff of national teams to optimise player preparation, monitor training demands during international camps, and reintegrate players safely upon their return.
- Maintain high-performance gym, rehab, and prehab environments, ensuring facilities and equipment meet elite standards and drive high-quality training behaviours.
- Deliver impactful education workshops covering anti-doping, physical preparation, performance behaviours, and female athlete health to build player understanding, autonomy, and professionalism.
- Maintain a comprehensive performance database and provide regular insights, reports, and dashboards to coaching and medical staff, supporting individual development plans, reviews, and long-term projects.
Skills, Experience and Knowledge:
Essential Qualifications & Requirements
- BSc in Sports Science or a related field
- UK Strength & Conditioning Association (UKSCA) Accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach (ASCC) credential
- The FA Level 2 Emergency First Aid in Football (EFAiF) qualification or equivalent
Completion of the UKAD Intro to Clean Sport course - Completion of the FootballHER course
- Safeguarding Children and Adults training (completed before starting the role
- Highly organised, punctual, and able to prioritise workload effectively
Calm, efficient, and adaptable when working under pressure or dealing with urgent changes - Reliable and trustworthy, with the ability to handle confidential information appropriately
- Willingness to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and matchdays
- Strong team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Fully committed to upholding the Club’s values, standards, and high-performance culture
Desirable Qualifications
- MSc in Strength and Conditioning or a related postgraduate discipline
- Additional S&C certifications (e.g., ASCA Level 2, CSCS) demonstrating advanced applied expertise
- BASES Accredited Sports Scientist or working towards accreditation
- Active engagement in ongoing professional development, including UKSCA CPD events, Women’s Pro Game CPD, and relevant communities of practice
